Ice-locked
2018
I undertook the residency in the aftermath of the ‘Beast from the East’, and the island was snow-covered and locked in ice for most of my stay, with no visitors. Each day I made a drawing – from observation, out of surface rubbings, and out of the daily ice charts we were monitoring – and I locked these in plastic wallets, building up a sense of the emptied landscape, with its memory of former inhabitants, over the course of my stay.
